THANK YOU for choosing The Shyann Kindness Project's "Tri" for Acts of Kindness Sprint Triathlon/Duathlon and 5K Fun Run/Walk.
The Timing and Chips:
On Your Left Fitness and Timing will be timing our event this year. You will be able to pick up your timing chip on race day near transition between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Please have your bib number with you to ensure you pick up the right chip.
200 yards in the La Mariposa Pool. This year there will be two people per lane (no circle swim). Participants need to submit their 200 yard swim estimates no later than Monday, August 28 to: firstname.lastname@example.org. The swim will run slowest to fastest. Participants will line up in bib number order. As a lane opens, the next participant will enter the water (no need to wait for an entire lane or wave to finish). This will keep the swim moving quickly.
The bike course is one 13.3-mile loop. The course is open to traffic. The Pima County Sherrifs (PCS) will be managing traffic along the course. YOU MUST OBEY ALL PCS INSTRUCTIONS.SAFETY is our main goal. The course will be marked with directional signs. Bike marshals will be watching the course, should you need any assistance. YOU MUST WEAR A HELMET approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. THE HELMET CHIN STRAP MUST BE FASTENED BEFORE YOU MOUNT THE BIKE, WORN AT ALL TIMES ON THE BIKE COURSE AND MUST REMAIN FASTENED UNTIL YOU DISMOUNT. ANY VIOLATION OF THIS RULE IS AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION.
The Run is a 3-mile out and back course. There is one water/aid station at the 1.5-mile mark. The course will be marked with signs and chalk.
T1 and T2 are in the same area, in the grassy area just outside of the pool. DO NOT get on your bike until out of the transition area and at the MOUNT LINE. The mount and dismount line will be clearly marked and volunteers will be present to guide you. You must DISMOUNT at the dismount line entering back into the parking lot, which, again, will be clearly marked and marshaled by volunteers.
Volunteers will be in transition to provide body marking with markers. However, to save time, once you have your bib number from packet pickup, you are free to mark yourself, or have a friend or family member do it for you. The number should be on both arms and the LEFT calf. Your age (on December 31, 2016) should be on the right calf
Packet Pickup is Friday, September8, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at TriSports: 4495 S Coach Dr, Tucson, AZ 85714. We STRONGLY urge you to pick up your packet on September 16. However, if you cannot make it, you can pick up your packet on race morning from 5:00 – 6:00 a.m. If you chose to do so, please allow enough time to park and rack your bike before picking up your packet.
Prerace Meeting, Finish Line and Awards:
There will be a pre-race course information meeting on Saturday, September 9, at 6:15 a.m. near the transition area. The race will begin promptly at 6:30 a.m. Age group categories are in 5-year increments, except for 15-19, in both women and men. Awards will be presented 3 deep in each age category. Overall awards will be given to the top 3 women and men.
At the finish line, you will receive a finisher’s medal, a bottle of water and freSh fruit. The awards ceremony will take place once all participants have finished the course.
Parking and Spectators:
Parking will be on the grass at the end of the golf driving range. There will be volunteers guding you to the parking area. Parking in the paved lot is reseved for La Mariposa members only. Please CARRY YOUR BIKE FROM YOUR VEHICLE TO THE PAVED LOT to avoid flat tires from goathead stickers. For safety reasons, spectators should try to be parked at the event prior to the 6:30 a.m. start time.
Please remember to have FUN! Many of the athletes are beginners, please be prepared to help your fellow racer with any questions he/she may have.
